Sin Lee Foods is a heritage café worth tracking down in Tiong Bahru which is a modern cafe offering light snacks, egg selections and salads.
It’s converted from an old coffeeshop, located somewhere in smacks of nostalgia on Bukit Ho Swee, Block 4. Just park nearby, and walk up a flight of stairs to find it.
Upon arrived, it’s a relatively small retro café that can sit probably 20 people indoors, but there’s also an alfresco area that can accommodate more people who don’t mind the heat.
We order the Salted Egg Wedge Fries which should be sweet potato as it’s out of stock, which turned out amazing, despite how simple it is with thick cut crispy fries. The salted egg sauce drizzled on wedges slivers fried just right, is the winning combination then topped with fried bay leaves.
The Fried Chicken & Waffles, touted as “the one and only” by Sin Lee, is topped with a seasoned, juicy leg piece, accompanied by a creamy housemade slaw. It tastes different when stacked waffle, then chicken, then slaw upon the fork, and drizzled with a caramelized syrup that unites the flavours brilliantly.
I do realize that their food is not like average café food as price is slight higher but overall is still acceptable as for their innovative take on café food, and the different types of ingredients experimented which make it interesting.
